The Central Visayas or Region VII is a part of a larger group called the Visayas.
The provinces in Central Visayas are Bohol, Cebu, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor. Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, and Mandaue are the highly urbanized cities in the region.
Cebuano or sometimes known as Bisaya is the dialect in Central Visayas. There are about 20 million speakers of Bisaya and it is considered as the mother tongue of many Filipinos beside Tagalog (or Filipino language). However, there are also different variations of Cebuano such as Boholano in Bohol. But the most popular variation is spoken in Cebu.
Similar to other regions in the Philippines, festivals are celebrated in many places in Central Visayas. Sinulog Festival in January is the region’s most popular religious cultural event. It is centered in Cebu City but also celebrated in many nearby areas.
