Calabarzon Region comprises of the following provinces – Calamba, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon. The acronym Calabarzon is derived from the first two letters of the above provinces mentioned.

Previously, Calabarzon and Mimaropa were combined as Southern Tagalog but was recently separated in 2002 through the Executive Order No. 103.

Calabarzon is found in southwestern Luzon which is just right to the south and east of Metro Manila. The region also happens to be a densely populated region in the Philippines following Metro Manila.

Dialect

Many of the residents in Calabarzon are considered Tagalog natives so their dialect is Tagalog.

Economic Boom and Population Growth

Its close proximity to the metropolis accounts for its high population rate. It has become a highly urbanized region because of the wide range of job and business opportunities available to all the residents.

On October 28, 2003, Executive Order No. 246 designated Calamba City as the regional center of Calabarzon.
